Juffure

The mirth of June pilgrims
gladdens your century of sorrow
your old heart cloys
your household gods stir
to bless Kunta's ghost
the pains of your
bruised birth
vigorous to scoop away
the silt of your river
the rites of your disintegrated womb
once more observed.
